The Waterfall

Mesmerizing effects can be achieved through the creation of an outdoor waterfall.  The two elements that need to be considered are the pool into which the water cascades and the actual fall itself.

Installing a waterfall requires a proper design, quality materials and some physical labor.  The first step is envisioning how the water would move around and over the rocks.  This design should mimic nature.  Remember to keep everything proportional as small falls can produce amazing effects.

Construction of the water catch basin should be done first.  This prevents the overhang of the falls from getting in the way of the excavation.  An outlet near the waterfall pond may need to be installed for a mechanical pump.  To achieve the necessary height, the location needs to be a sloped.  Oncee the slope is determined construction of the cascade can begin.  A liner should be placed under the falls to reduce splashing and prevent water loss.

The next step should be placement of spill rocks.  These flat rocks with sharp edges allows for water to cascade evenly into the pond basin.  Several different arrangements should be tried.  Eventually the ideal arrangement will create a layout that flows through a natural channel and is aesthetically pleasing. Read some fantastic information regarding waterfalls in a Garden Pond
